My chickens arrived today!

It's been a long wait, but my four Red Sexlinks (finally) arrived this morning. Poor things seemed very subdued and scared and they all tried to hide in the nesting box, but came out of their shells a little bit after being in the coop for a while. There's lots of room for the four of them. They had laid two eggs in the crate in transit from Freys :)
I put two nesting boxes in the coop, hoping that they might prefer one over the other. One is a big kitty litter bin, the other is a plastic crate. Hubby kindly put a golf ball in each. Guess I'll find them teeing off tomorrow morning - or maybe I'll have golf balls for my breakfast.......

Thanks everyone. I've already realized that I need MORE CHICKENS! This was more of a trial to see how chicken-raising goes..... I've already got hubby excited about building a bigger and better coop for next year :)
When I checked on them this morning they had tipped over their heavy ceramic rabbit bowl feeder and were cackling. Probably wondering why breakfast was so late!
No eggs

Do they have to have their breakfast first?
The dogs ate their cracked and broken eggs from yesterday and I'm faced with some two-week-old store-bought eggs (bought for the dawgs) for MY breakfast.....

Sometimes moving frightens them and they stop laying for a bit , they might start laying right away or take a week or two to settle in. It could be they don't lay till later in the day, I have one hen lays at 5pm on the dot every day.

Smart to start small, they tend to multiply fast

You will never want to eat bought eggs again, just a heads up, they may have a completely different idea of how the perfect laying box looks, then you do, so checking odd corners at the beginning is a good idea.

Oh no! I don't want to traumatize them any more than necessary, but I have to check out the coop to see if there are any eggs. They don't appear to like the kitty litter nesting box and probably wonder what those white golf balls are. They have brown eggs!
Thanks for the info. Guess I will have to find out what their schedules are and check the corners :)
