I picked up 4 metal spiles and got them tapped into the trees. Saps is a running nice n strong! I think I like the plastic spiles better than the metal ones just because i was able to get the plasic ones to seal up better into the tree. I sure hope the holes dry up tommorow.

I boiled down the sap I previously collected and made enough for 2 or 3 batches of pancakes... MAN is it ever good! mmmmmhmmmmm

My daughters and I hung a few buckets out back the house after school today. Monday morning my high school students will be hard at work cleaning buckets and then tapping.

Weather is suppose to warm up quick, hopefully the nights will be a little cooler than forecast, next 2 weeks most nights here forecast lows only 0 to -2, some nice -5 to +5 weather would be nice.

Right on Jim!

Well my metal spiles are still leaking... bummer. I pounded them in a bit farther but im just bending the metal now. oh well live n learn.

I tapped 2 more trees today. I found a few tapered air line fittings, absolutely perfect fit to the hose and 100% seal on the tree. I took a 5 gallon jug and 3 taps out to the bush and tapped I nice huge suger maple I believe judging by the bark n the way it has grown. Man it works amazing and the sap immediately started flowing. I wonder how long it will take to fill? judging by the forcast it doesn't look like theres much time left.

after I made it back I found another air hose fitting. so I chose one of the trees with a nice big root close to the house n tapped it aswell.

this is kinda fun eh!

not a night below 0 as far as I can see on the forcast. im having conflicting thoughts LOL!

So what exactly happens if the nights from tonight on do not go below 0? does it just stop flowing or whats the deal? Should I just watch the taps or pull them?

Sap is running strong again today! I sure wonder how it working out in the bush but im only guna fight the mud once and that will be to remove and gather the sap for boiling. heck I might even just walk back there. LOL

How will I know when its time to pull the taps? I was thinking that I should put a min/max outdoor thermometer outside and go by it?
