Brass kettle

Post by Brebis » Wed Feb 15, 2017 9:27 pm

Anyone know if it's OK to use a brass kettle for making maple syrup? I have a large one and would like to use it but uncertain of it's safety. I do have some smaller stainless ones but would prefer to use the larger brass one.
Thanks!

It depends...Does it say "do not use for food" on the bottom? brass intended for decoration has a nasty toxic sealant. Does it have any verdigris (green staining) inside? If so, do NOT use. And never put anything acidic in it if you intend to use it to cook. Treat it like copper. Other than those things, you should be good!
