Sap is a running!

LOL. that's why i taste each bucket of sap-make sure it's not buddy or off-especially at 15C!!!! i use drop lines with holes drilled in the tops of the lids of the buckets, no way for rain to get in or water off the bark of the tree....(my first year i collected a lot of rain because i drilled holes in the lids for the lines in the part that wasn't raised so all the rain pooled in the low part and drained through the hole! LOL)....sap should be nice and watery but taste a little sweet.

was going to say you need chains on them there tires al....but i think you DO have chains...you need a horse, they don't get too stuck in the mud, they're pretty smart about not getting into places they shouldn't....tractors and husbands sometimes not so much LOL.

Good stuff Al , you sure that's sap ? Looks more like a homemade moonshiner still to me lol . Yep just pulled my little red convertible yard tractor out of its winter cave , fired right up probably to soon to take the blower & canopy off the other one yet . Thing I'll stay way from bush/mud for few days . Ahhh the wind blowing thru your hair . Haheeee

Ross I was thinking the same thing on my drive back! HAHAHA

I boiled what I had yesterday down into syrup and Im currently boiling down the 5 gallons I have now on a propane turkey fryer.

Good old turkey fryer , lots a uses . . Got family comin over Sat . Gonna deep fry a turkey , first they've had like that . Hopefully we can eat outside

it's bbq weather tonight!!!! LOL. i have some sap on the woodstove right now, lending humidity to the air when the stove is on.....which it isn't right now. wonder how long that will take to boil down LOL. yes, turkey fryers are wonderful! they're awesome also for good old clam bakes too! and cooking a pile of seafood for company really fast....and doing corn on the cob, oh, i cannot wait for garden season again! fresh vegetables from the yard instead of the grocery store. i'll check the trees tonight and see if we're done at our place. wasn't running anymore yesterday after 5pm when i checked them.

al, when we get together again remind me and i'll bring you a square of orlon filter you can use for filtering your syrup

Okay...those folks who do the boiling on the bbq must have one kickass bbq...this could take all night.....i really need to get the evaporator made..ugh..

iv been boiling 5 gallons for about 5 n a half hours now. iv boiled it down to a third. could be a couple more hours I figure. Iv been using cheese cloth to filter it into the jar.

Al...yup...cheesecloth here too...those filter cones avail at TSC need the mesh frame which they didn't sell so i went for the cheesecloth..works fine

Hey, I didn't get my tractor stuck ...... yet!!! Always able to get out....

Easy rule of thumb: use 2x4 to get stuck. Throw in 4x4 and get out....

works like a charm every time.... Even helped a car hauler out of the ditch on our gravel road that way. Don't ask what my neighbour was thinking getting stuck with shiny new cars though ...

finished product! I added the syrup I boiled yesterday once most of this batch was done n boiled it all down and finished it in the house. so about 5 gallons makes a jar... perfect.

haha Martin. I didnt get my tractor stuck today either.

mmmmmmmmmm gooooooooooooood!
