I gave my Excalibur dehydrated away and dry in my gas oven. I would like to build a solar dehydrate. Anybody tried or have a good set of plans for one?

do you subscribe to Mother Earth News? we do and its one of the best magazines ever. they are all about being off grid and being self sufficient. I first read this article in the magazine but here is the link to a great solar dehydrator thats on my list of things to build.

have fun!

Thanks Al. I used to subscribe, it is an awesome magazine, life changing actually. I just wish I could find a comparable Canadian version.

Does anyone use a sun oven? I would love to know of they work as well as the company claims they do :)

My sister in BC uses a contraption her hubs build. It's like a mini greenhouse.
It is all glass panels and completely enclosed with slits of ventilation at the seams before the frame. It has racks and opens at the top.
She puts her herbs, basil, lavender etc (she gets to grow lavender year round) and lays them on the table outside and let's them sun dry. She's been using it for years.

However the island does not have the humid summers like us, so I'm not sure how it would work here.
