Has anyone grown a Bay Laurel outdoor? (Bay leaves) I'm not even sure if it can be grown in our climate, or if brining in for winter is an option. I know it can get quite large, but I'm assuming a lot here, that I can trim and keep it to a normal size. With that said, I have a ceiling in the house that is 18' if needed haha!
I go through a LOT of bay leaves. I use them in my stove top homemade potpourri, soups, stocks, stews, pasta sauce, chilli, nesting box blend and my coop litters herb/spice blend. I even add to some tea blends.

You would have to bring it in for the winter. In the UK you could get small potted ones.

Sandym! I like you're thinking. Everytime Carla shows up with a plant I ask... Is it edible? If not...why bother?
I'll start looking for a source...

Amazon.ca will send you two 4 inch plants for $20 and $13 for shipping. Or seeds for $7 but i'd get the plants.
This american site has a good description and pics

"It thrives in containers".... Hot damn the flavour must be night and day vs the dried stuff.

This basil will be outside come spring.
Today i seeded a load of lavender, mint, catnip, marigolds, chives, thyme, more basil. I bought oregano and some mint and a few others as well the other day.
My ducks demolished my lavender last year. I had one plant left by the time I discovered they found the plants. So I'm basically starting over with lavender
I'd like to learn about growing black pepper too.
Going to check out these plants on amazon

Woohoo!!! I'm going to call a few nurseries tomorrow and Monday, see if they carry them. Those ones on Amazon are quite expensive compares to other offerings (which of course are all in the US). But I'm going to call around anyways before I get from Amazon.
I can only imagine the flavour when not dried. I'm so excited!!!
Now to look for black pepper plants.
