Nope, weather needs to be consistently 50 degrees and no higher before you can plant it other, it sprouts.

"They" say that if we plant too early it will sprout, but it will still be ok. I hate to make it go through all that, just for it to die off when the weather cools BUT if there was a forecast for a lot of rain, I might be tempted to plant earlier than recommended just for convenience.

Yup garlic in,
my go to date is Carp Fair, just so I remember to plant it, this might be a first time it actually went in on that date :) Sept 24 for those who aren't local...... :coolguy:
don't care if it sprouts, it's at my convenience, and I find freezing hands pretty inconvenient.... :)

@Ontario Chick SOunds like when we first moved to Orillia and couldn't figure out why people were putting Xmas lights up in October! We soon learned.

funny that this topic comes up all the time...people will do what they want with no regard to well intentioned advice....my rule of thumb is end of Oct....get the ground ready before hand..its nice to do it now when the weather is quite amiable...make sure the soil has been amended with good compost and/or well rotted manure (cow poop preferably) and worked in well....then wait....end of Oct....plant and cover with a couple of inches of the best seed free straw you can get your hands on..and then go inside and have a cuppa...job is done...wait for spring...garlic is the easiest crop to grow in your garden, EVER!!!....btw, we grow Music, Khabar, and Red Russian...have a trial on Red German, Porcelaine and Mennonite..will see how they are... :run:

that's all fine and dandy for all you people in the southern regions, but we up here in the far North expect first snow first week in November and if I waited until end of Oct, the penguins would be gathering in my garden getting in the way.
I will admit to planting garlic randomly anytime after Carp Fair, since I have been doing it that way for 30 years and it has worked, I am getting very relaxed about any kind of gardening deadlines ;)

I still haven't got used to not getting the first snows in September here. We used to live in Orillia.
