Sorry potatoes are in the compost pile, replaced by my attempt at permaculture.
Wish I knew what variety the raspberries are but they were a gift and of unknown origin.

Another problem is that there are lots of wild raspberries around, both red and black, and I suspect they will cross-pollinate and instead of amazing large red, they will produce Medium striped. :)

So this is my attempt at gardening in my dotage, see if it works.

Try no-till, cover with mulch in summer and a tarp in the winter/spring, and weeding is a breeze :).

:iagree: I added layer of compost to the beds and covered with mulch last fall. I plan to add more mulch after I have planted everything out. It's easy to move the overwintered mulch aside to plant, then put it back around the plants, plus I don't have to remove all the early starter weeds before I plant either, except for underneath where the birdfeeder was hanging this winter.

I use straw and compost it at the end of the season.
For the raspberries I think I will try wood chips, had our big oak trimmed in the winter so have some lovely chips from that.

The last time I used straw I had weeds literally growing out of the straw piles-fairly certain the weed seeds were IN the straw. I swore off it after that. What did I do wrong?
