Bamboo
Bamboo
Has anyone here grown bamboo? I was thinking it would be cool to grow some that I could use for various things like stakes or kindling, but I feel like it would have the potential to be pretty invasive. I’m just wondering if anyone knows of a way to grow it or a type that might not take over my whole property.

Re: Bamboo
I saw on a gardening show a few years ago that someone planted it in a large pot put in the ground in order to keep it from spreading. The garden was in BC. There are several different kinds of bamboo. If you do a search you might find one that will grow in your zone.

I had ordered some seeds on e-bay and they were fairly easy to germinate. Didn't keep them more than a year or so as I changed plans. Here is an Ontario site that sells/ships them.

It's very invasive. I had a garden job a few years back where it took over the property. We had to dig down a good 6 feet and sift out the roots (any remaining roots re-grow). Grow in pots or it will take over, we dug up to the concrete driveway and were finding roots that we couldn't remove because it was underneath the structure of the driveway. Nasty plant.

I totally agree...keep it in pots. Don’t let that stuff get into your ground. I was amazed how invasive it was even in our climate,
