Anybody ever grow round zucchini?
I bought and started regular looking green zucchini seeds (just OSC brand) but its become obvious that they were mislabeled. Wondering if taste is similar. There's an abundance of flowers so I'm not concerned about low yield at least.

Well that's me this year, but not really on purpose. When lockdown was making it hard to shop, I was picking up an online order at HHdware. Asked the clerk if they had seeds, could she grab me some zucchini seeds. She did, but they are round zukes. The bushes are massive, and make my tiny garden look very lush (too much N) but how do I know when the little things are ripe? The first time our family grew zukes in the '60's, we didn't know what they were and let them get the size of baseball bats! Are these the baseballs?

Lol good way to describe them! We picked and ate the first 4 last weekend. They were between the size of a baseball and a softball. Google says pick them between 3-4 inches or they are all seeds. I have them by accident as well but so far I'm pretty happy with them and may order them on purpose next year.

I have never dealt with cucumber beetles. I guess we've just been lucky. I have been waging war for the past week and picking and squishing for as long as I can morning and evening and I'm losing the fight miserably. I keep watching my precious cantaloupes, squash, cucumbers and zucchini dying off. This means war. These traps are going out tonight after the rain stops. I cannot believe the price of them. Somebody please tell me this will work!
I've worked too hard for these plants to let some stupid bugs eat them.

@Happy We had them earlier this year and got desperate. Despite all the advice being not to spray with anything because squashes are delicate I sprayed the crap out of everything with Neem Oil (soil around included). I used 1tsp per 750ml water. This was a few weeks back and the plants involved (2 types of zucchini) have recovered and have fruit on them. Don't know if you can get it up here brought mine in from the US.

Neem oil is hard to find here. Last year there were some garden centres that carried it, but I haven't seen any here in Ontario lately. You could try Amazon, but it will be pricey.

dug some potatoes yesterday, vines starting to brown. I thought it was just them maturing. Looks like I have not given them enough water during this hot weather. Not many and not very big. I will water them today but thinking its too late. My New Zealand squash are setting fruit, not loaded, but some coming. About half of the female blossoms have yellowed and fallen off, not sure if this is a water or pollination issue. Everything going to get probably overwatered today.

Happy, do let us know if the cuke beetle traps work. I had such great success with cucumbers for several years, and always shared half with the chickens, then the beetles found us, and totally devastated the plants. Last year, I grew them under Reemay which was such a PITA un-tucking and re-tucking, that I gave up bothering to harvest. I didn't think there were very many beetles last year after all that. This year I am trying again. I read somewhere to plant late so that the beetles will think there's nothing here. So far, so good.....

KB I bet the neem would work on cucumber beetles too! My neighbour is using it against asparagus beetles which were rampant this year, but I couldn't find it anywhere....
