New seeds

I ordered some miniature lotus seeds from Amazon. Supposedly they are easy to grow. I'm going to try. I also ordered some peony seeds from there to try. They are harder to grow. I bought some in the spring from the Canadian Peony Society, and so far none have sprouted. I found a few different methods of getting them to germinate. I don't know which one is the best, but after Christmas I am going to ask someone in the Peony Society for a recommendation.

Oh what fun! I would love to try starting some lotus seeds myself, but we have snapping turtles in our pond who destroy waterlily roots.

Here's a good site about how to get lotus seeds to grow:

The peony seeds are coming from China, so will not get here until January. The lotus seeds appear to all be viable. They have soaked up water and one has split it's shell. There are 21. There are another 25 lotus seeds that are supposed to be coming. If they all start growing I may have to add on. They need to live above 70 degrees and with lots of light once they sprout. I have a small aquarium I am going to set up for them (a brooder Ha Ha).

Several of the lotus seeds sprouted the third day they were in water. 15 out of 21 sprouted. This is what they look like today.

Pretty good germination rate! You may find that they all sprout! What fun :).

Wow, that's quick germination. Fingers crossed they all turn into seedlings for you.

The 6 that didn't sprout started to smell so I threw them out. Once they have grown a root I can plant them.

Ever neat! I just watched a YouTube video on growing them. It's like having a water garden in the house.

I have 8 small water lily roots growing in bowls in the kitchen. I bought them off Kijiji a few weeks ago. They were cheap and I will sell the extras. Flower is supposed to be yellow. They are all the same variety. There are 25 more mini lotus seeds on their way too. The plan is to enjoy the growing of them then sell some. I hope it goes better than selling chickens. :)
