Looking for suggestions on what I should apply to this cherry limb to prevent it from drying up and dying?

Thanks,

Nothing. It should heal on its own. The old ways of adding "gunk" apparently do nothing to help with healing :(.

Labradors is mostly right. But this one is large, and will lose so much moisture. If it was mine I would put on one coat of latex paint. That will will heal over the summer and the paint will peel and it should be fine. Definitely maybe.
