Deer on the prowl

Post by KimChick » Tue Jun 26, 2018 11:17 am

Grrrrr! Deer have found my flowers!
My phlox buds are gone and the lovely delphinium flowers beside them are gone. Some day lily buds were gone yesterday, so cubes of Irish Spring soap are hanging from those. Time to get more into the flower gardens.

I feel for you,
Last year I moved some Daylillies and was really looking forward to seeing the blooms as I wasn't sure which ones I moved;) and just as the color was almost peaking ...deer ate all the buds:(
I use motion activated "scare crows" to protect my hosts garden , turned on at night, the dog was triggering one on his last outing in the late evening, so I angled it bit more away from the house, this morning the two hostas in front of the house are half eaten.

heres the law regarding nuisance animals. you could always call the MNR and get some very good info and guidance, simply ask them, "what can i do to stop deer from destroying my gardens?" they will tell you everything.

Had a deer standoff yesterday afternoon here
I was out in back pasture checking cows and calves
Saw deer. Deer saw me
It started pawing the ground and snorting at me!
I just stood still. It was for a good 2 minutes I bet
Second time I’ve had this happen here
Last time was right in our backyard

She has a baby somewhere around there, I remember one snorting behind me, and both me and the dog were the heck out of there :)
Then I found the "baby"

I've seen a buck do that as a warning.

As an observation, DH commented that my flowers got eaten the night after I put Irish Spring soap pieces around the inside perimeter of our veggie garden. Perhaps the smell of the soap moved them away from the veg garden and to my flower garden. Hmmm....
Now our property smells like Irish Spring.
