Fruit trees

Well I got my trees planted right away. I have to say they were excellent looking stock and I'm glad I paid for the 2 year bare root. If they don't make it it will be my fault not theirs. I did find it traumatic pruning off the top 1/3 as instructed!
Hope it's OK to post their website here.

Gill...what kind of fruit trees did you get?...i plant a couple of fruit trees every spring qnd my orchard is growing..just picked up two Honeycrisp bare root trre this morning from the "Westport in Bloom" group...pricier but it helps the community effort there...and next week i get 250 balsam fir trees as a start on the xmas tree farm...whats the point of cutting back the treeling 1/3?... :run:

the roots feed the tree- by cutting back the tree, the tree will put energy and growth into roots first (and healing the wound) rather than buds. by pruning when planted it doesn't try and pull water to heal the wound until its in the ground.

and the tree above is demanding what the roots below can send, so it balances the tree.
