Okay just got back from picking up some geese. Instead of my $5 worth of change, as I didn't have the correct dollar amount for the birds, I got 310 cloves of legacy garlic. I have never grown a hardneck garlic before. Other then a fertile, weed free row in my garden should I be doing anything other then sticking the cloves in the dirt?

We grow ours in a raised bed. Plant them 1-2 inches deep and 2 inches apart. They are easy to grow and oh, so good to have your own fresh garlic.

yep, plant them now, pointy side up, about 2-4 inches deep.....and let them be until they send up scapes in the early summer. then clip the scapes and eat them! and then harvest once the bottom 3 leaves go brown.

I plant 4-6 inches apart
Nice "change" !!!! we have been self sufficient with hard neck garlic for about 20 years since somebody brought a pile to the Garden Club meeting for the taking and we got 6 bulbs. Possibly the most appreciated harvest here. :)

Hardneck garlic make bulbs around a hard stalk core. Softneck makes layers of cloves around a small soft stem.
Hardneck also grow scapes while softneck doesnt if i understand garlic correctly.

Hard neck garlic tends to keep better, we keep ours loosely in a basket in cold storage and it lasts until next years harvest, without any problems, so we have continuous supply.

Thank-you! And, awesome score, goatgal! I don't know anything about garlic: tried growing it once from grocery store cloves, and the bulbs never got bigger than my thumbnail. Left them be and two years later they had spread everywhere lol
