I breed daylilys , and bloom up to several hundred new ones each year . This has been the driest year in memory for us old guys and despite that we had some wonderful new blooms . If anyone is in our neighbourhood next summer you would be welcomed to visit our garden and see our birds and English Setters .We are in Stevensville ( South Niagara )

So how does one "breed" daylilies? do you artificially pollinate them and collect seed and sprout from seed or graft or??

To do controlled breeding you hand pollinate- take the pollen from the selected male parent and dab it on the stigma of the chosen female . If the cross takes a seed pod will form and become the size of a small walnut in a few weeks . Seeds can be harvested when the pod starts to turn brown . They are stored dry until ready to sow. Most sow them in winter and transplant outside after frost . Many will bloom the following year. I have added few more pictures.
