Apple picking time?

Last night we had light frost, went down to zero but a light fog protected most things and tonight we are supposed to get a good frost. Now does this mean I can pick apples tomorrow. My problem started out kind of creepy, when ever I go away, someone goes into my yard, takes apples and puts them on top of the fence posts at the road. Turns out however it's two crows and they are stealing all the good apples. The apples are white inside now and are similar to macs. I heard a frost makes them better. But do you have to wait a few days after or is next day fine?

I've never heard that a frost makes a difference when picking apples.taste them, if they taste good, go get them. Storage apples are uncommon, these apples would be hard and taste like potatoes now, but after a couple months packed in straw, they're ready.

Apples are awesome this year...we have a small tree here in the 'barnyard' that i left when we cleared for the house...about 9' tall..all leany to the south ..had to put a brace under one of the larger branches this year it was so laden with apples...all the wild apple trees on the farm are loaded...hardly any apples with scab or worms...fantastic year...frost really doesn't help much...picked today...anyone need apples?..lol

Happy turkeys with all the apple foraging I've done from the hedgerows!

My crabapples get soft by September first so I throw a bunch every other day to the chickens.

All the old timers around here always say to never pick apples until after a frost, one of those things that just never gets questioned lol. I will pick today, between crows, deer and raccoons there will be nothing left soon and I also don't want to attract bears, they will destroy the trees.

Apple crisp! Apple crisp! Apple crisp, yaaaaaaay!

also our local apple orchard does a huge bag of "seconds" for $5. Started buying them for the birds and then I realised that in my book they were perfectly good LOL! The birds still get lots.
