I have never grown beans to dry before. I have Cherokee Trail of tears. Grown very well but small in pods likely because of dry weather. So my question is do I leave them to ripen and dry on the vine or pick them and dry them. Tried to leave the peas to dry on vines but the chickens ate them! You told me so Kathy LOL!

Pull the whole plant and hang to dry....then as the pods get brittle you can shell them. I leave mine in the garden until yellow and dry...but mine is fenced lol. You can also pick the pods once yellow before completely drying and put in a dry spot to let them finish up. As long as the plant is starting to yellow you should be okay pulling the plant whole.
