Can I plant green peppers next to onions? What about green peppers near potatoes? I am planting less this year but again seem to have used up most of the space already.

My understanding and I am by no means a horticulturist, but if they are the same family they are good to go. Personally I have never even given it a thought. I just plant and so far so good.

Which variety of potatoes are you planting? I have two favourites, purple viking and Superior.

I sow Pontiac red potatoes because they were developed in this area and so yield the most per hill for me. The draw back is they usually go soft in March where the whites stay firm until now but only give me half the yield. I have grown the purple potatoes over the last two years and I like them but the yield is terrible and they are too small.

I was wondering about planting because some things like snow peas say to keep them away from onions and potatoes etc.

I've never heard of keeping peas away from onions and potatoes.

I do a four year rotation, (have done for years)
there are 4 main "family" groups that should be planted in succession, no problem if they aren't but this is pretty beneficial to all.
# 1 Legumes, beans, peas
# 2 Onions, garlic, shallots,
# 3 Tomatoes, peppers, celery, carrots, parsnips, potatoes.
# 4 cauliflower, broccoli, kohlrabis, turnips, radishes, brussel sprouts.
Peas bring in nitrogen, are done by September when garlic gets planted and so on.....
I do have an extra bed for potatoes, but that is always struggle, because the are the same family as tomatoes, so shouldn't realy be planted in succession, to keep both healthy.

if you are into companion planting onions go well with garlic, but don't plant near carrots because the carrot maggot is the young form of the onion thrip....and if you get maggots in the carrots you'll get thrips in your onions....LOL
Peppers grow really well beside tomatoes, and lettuce
tomatoes can share the same space with carrots, literally plant the carrots around the base of the tomatoes...they do well.
i wouldn't put onions and potatoes together since they are both underground, but corn with potatoes works (with extra fertilizer because corn is a heavy feeder)
onions i tend to just put need like stuff-garlic, shallots, chives, leeks.....but with that said last year i had 4 rows of onions between 2 rows of beans, and everything did just fine....

I have a UK book which does good rotations etc. When we moved here got a good laugh out of the growing section which says plant your peas in February!

im doing a few 3 sisters gardens. corn, pole beans and squash. first time doing it and im a terrible gardener, wish me luck. HAHA!
