What is it? -Mystery Fruit found in lawn

i did tomatillo salsa but did half tomato and half tomatillo....the tomatoes saved it....LOL

The fruit wasn't removed from its papery skin like a tomatillo/ground cherry.

Hopefully another one pops up but the squirrels and chipmunks are working overtime.

Chinese lantern fruit is in the same family as well. It's edible, but used mostly as an ornamental. Husk is orange until it dries, and fruit is orange when ripe.
They taste like citrus with a hint of cilantro, I am not a fan.

was it growing directly from the ground? or did it look like it was "imported" in from somewhere by an animal?
