And yes, I hear you on the lettuce ... wish I'd started some romaine too. Have you seen any less expensive than $5.98 a head?
I find there is a set limit in my mind on what I am willing to pay for anything actually, and it has more to do with the VALUE it has to me, rather then price, and frankly, lettuce, not much

Yes we paid that for a lettuce BUT it was from Quebec and there was absolutely zero waste on it. SO many now are brown slime!
