I got him, just the thought of him walking on his 2 broken back legs is horrifying. He moved about 2kms from where he was hit. Yikes. Lizzie said the last time she saw him he was running towards the bush. So he didn't just walk on it he ran on it. Man am I ever glad I pursued him until I found him, I just wish I had permission to dispatch him when I first found him so he didn't have to suffer anymore... I just really didn't think he could have survived that. He's hanging in the shop and I will butcher him tomorrow. My first deer, a decent size, I wish it was under different circumstances but very happy and thankful nonetheless. So there's no tag on his antlers as you see in the pic... I have a number and confirmation via email that grants me permission to poses him.

that's the laws and procedures to lawfully posses dead wild animals. There's nothing about dispatching them, that's a decision that a local conservation officer can make and approve on an individual basis. It took me about 20 mins to get approved over the phone.

Thanks Kathy! I have butchered a deer once before. I think the butchering is the easy part... the gutting not so much but I got it done n did it right with no contamination. I'm just getting ready to start the butchering process, we just need to run to the store for freezer bags.

CHEERS!

Bonus for you, you deserve it after taking the time to locate him and put him out of his misery.

Ok so I may not be the best butcher, 75lbs of meat off this guy, all deboned. In time I will learn the proper cuts...
