Ruger 10-22

Post by Dominion Link » Wed Oct 12, 2016 1:25 am

The Ruger 10-22 is the most popular semi auto .22 lr ever. There are countless after market parts for the 10-22 including a wide variety of magazines that can hold more than the standard 10 rounds. In the last year the authority to reclassify firearms and related items has been handed over by the federal government to bureaucrats. Consequently those bureaucrats have let it be known that 10-22 magazines with a capacity of greater than 10 are now prohibited devices and those, otherwise law abiding, firearms owners who are in possession of them are subject to criminal charges.

Ruger 10-22

okay I did some digging and found out why... all handgun mags are supposed to be limited to ten rounds. the ruger 10-22 mag has existed for a heck of a long time a lot longer than the few pistols that were made after and use the 10-22 mag such as the Teck-22 or Ruger Charger. but still what a load of you know what... in order to own handguns one needs a restricted license is that not good enough? NO! This has nothing to do with magazine capacities or mags built originally for one gun that is used in another... its all about making us criminals. again. i'd love a 10-22 but I have a Remington 597 instead and its a great gun. banana mags are still legal for it.... go figure.

I just talked with a good buddy of mine who has a 10-22. he says this has always been a Canadian law since the ruger charger came out and only applies to the ruger branded 25 round mags, not the aftermarket. they have to state on paper which ones are legal and which ones arnt and the ruger mags are the only ones listed. he says apparently the aftermarket mags are built slightly different so they cant mate with the ruger charger handgun.

edit... the above is not true...

gotta love the ever confusing Canadian gun laws.

Generally, when a new law hits the books that has a negative affect on previously legal firearms or accessories, those items get grand fathered. The 9 round capacity of the semi auto 30.06 Garand is an example. Still allowed to own it and it stayed non restricted. The Ruger 10-22 rifle and higher capacity mags have been around since prior to C68/the Firearms Act, and there is no doubt in my mind our previous government would have prevented this move, as they did several other nonsensical attempts to go after firearms owners. Ralph Goodale has replied to Candace Bergen and stated that he will not get involved with the decision of the RCMP bureaucrats to enforce via criminal charges, a ban on these mags. There are less than 300 of the Ruger Chargers in Canada, and there has never been an incident of one being used in a criminal offence, let alone with a magazine holding greater than 10 rounds. And, aftermarket mags are absolutely included. If it fits a 10-22, then it'll fit a Charger.

Tony Bernardo and the CSSA are currently preparing a class action law suit and have asked for owners of the affected mags to contact them with information regarding the value of the mags they own.

thanks for clarifying that Dean. I just read the rcmp website in regards to the 10-22 mag. I agree if it fits the rifle it should fit the handgun but I truly dont know that for a fact, I have no desire to own any handguns. what im confused about is if this law hasnt been changed since 2013 why is this coming up now?
