Found the right crank cocking aid!!!!

Post by WLLady » Fri Sep 30, 2016 11:08 am

Well, i took ross' advice and got on the other forum i belong to for hunting-ontario out of doors. (love that forum too!)
I posted a wanted ad for a cocking aid for one of the oldest excalibur bows in existence...the phoenix. I had a lot of people contact me with the C2 which doesn't fit, or the old C2. even excalibur phoned some obscure places in the USA and no one had any. Archer's nook had one advertised which turned out to be a new C2 in error...oops..all the ones i tried, did not fit, and finally a gentleman from Toronto sent me a photo and asked "is this one? it's just lying in my basement i have never used it, i will never use it"....LOL. so a bit of research and measuring and everything and discovered his bow is the exact same as my hubby's, the exocet. The stock on the exocet is the same as the phoenix....so i met up with him and we tried it out, and it fits! perfectly!!!!

I've tried it out, it works perfectly, and is easy, and doable...it's a bit hard on my back just for the final 1/2 inch, but i can do that. Not like screaming pain after only 1 inch of pulling the rope aid!
so hopefully i'll be able to spend some time out in the stand, or at least on the ground! I have a few people lined up that I can call if I am lucky and snag a deer this year, and there's a butcher not too far that i may send it to, although i can sit and tear down the deer fine. As long as i can sit while I do it, I should be fine.

I think like Ross I will have to get creative in the next couple of years....lol. I'm 100% sure that I will not be able to turn to sit in a tree stand of our current style, so I'll have to think about that. I ground hunt too, so i might just not be stand hunting. Still not sure what to do about gun hunting, the recoil on the 22LR is fine, but the 12g drops me to the ground. i don't even dare try the 270 because if i do drop to the ground i have no control over a bullet flying that far that fast!

We have corn up this year, so i think i'll be taking the ATV down the driveway a bit and then parking and walking into the stand from there. I have a walking stick that is just plain wood so it won't stand out, and i need to take a small rope out for hauling my bow up into the stand yet...guess i should wash up the clothes in scent free given tomorrow is deer opener! LOL. i don't think i'm going tomorrow. it's way too muddy already. plus i have TONS of things to do here, and it's still way too warm to hang a deer-plus those awful yellow hornet wasp things are out en force! they actually EAT the deer meat while it's hanging!

I hope everyone has a great successful deer season!!!!! I am just so happy that I can go, somewhat independently, still!

That's great Kathy so happy . Yep if you want something bad enough you will find a way . So far I'm ok in my tree stand with boat seat & the way Al made the stairs out like normal stairs works great . I use a swivel office chair I found on side of road in my Ameristep ground blind which lets me move round to see out all sides quietly & relieves body tension & as you've seen my tractor along with authorization letter to hunt / shoot from stationary vehicle hopefully get another 5 yrs at least out there . Luck

A good compensator on the muzzle of your rifle would make a huge difference. I shot a Remington 700, .338 Lapua with a well designed compensator and the recoil felt like I was shooting something more like a .243.

A lot of the competitive shotguns can be fitted with a muzzle brake so the are more stable.
