successful night for me....i'm done now, just got one tag and that's it....this is a first for me..usually i get bearded jakes or bearded toms...well folks, here's a VERY bearded hen. holy moly was she ever moulting...the feathers were just falling out of her! her breast was almost bare from feathers, with new ones coming in. and has a bigger beard than some of our two year old boys around here!!

it sure is greening up quickly now! ticks are out too. oh yay. those are critters i could definitely do without. i was sitting on the edge of the field just in the woods in had a hen decoy out in the field about 15 yards. and sat for an hour before calling ever so quietly, and figured not a hope anyone heard that, but thought i heard a "bok" from behind me on the left in the ravine...so called again, and sure enough 2 "boks" from behind me on the right this time, over the hill in the ravine behind me. then about 10 minutes later they pop up the grass hill from the river to my right and come right up to the decoy. thought they were both girls, but then saw the beard on the one and well, bearded is legal. so, probably less than a 15 yard shot, and they didn't even see me...there were 2...i had to wait until they weren't lined up-i didn't want to hit them both.....
