I had chipmunks out yesterday. And moles are already destroying the lawn. Yes, spring is arriving.

Spring, oh yay, my phone ringing and people want me to do their taxes. Software is a bloody pain: it took me 5 hours last night to do what should have taken 1. I spent last week fixing a tax mess done by someone who thought she knew what she was doing (using software). My fix and they"ll get a $1000 bigger refund. If you don't know how to do it on paper, don't use software! Garbage in... garbage out. That's my problem with taxes... i hate it and I'm good at it.

:hijacked: sort of....

Sandy, I heard this on CBC radio gardening show today. Moles hates castor oil. So either grow castor beans around your property or mix castor oil with washing up liquid and put it down a few of the holes.

I'm going to try it this spring.

Motor oil? I couldn't do that!!

I'm going to take pictures of the damage they've done in 2 days. I had the cats sitting there waiting for them to pop up. Ugh! They drive me nuts

Speaking of Spring summer and mosquitos. If everyone remembers we discovered garlic for mosquitos last year. We live in a swamp basically and the mosquitos ruin our summers. Last year things changed with the discovery of this garlic. The mosquito population was decreased by 95% and its garlic. Nothing toxic. It definitely smells for a bit but I don't care. When you deal with our infestation of the buggers you'll tolerate a skunks ass if that worked.

So I order the gallon jugs on Amazon.com (US) and it's super cheap compared to the CDN prices and smaller jugs. So I noticed that the comments are seller will stop selling/discontinue the product. WHAT?? So I ordered 4 gallons to get us through the summer. If you're thinking about ordering it I would suggest you giddy up!

Cheers!!

Sandy: the oil from an olive is olive oil. You put it in your salad. The oil from underground tar sands is what goes in your car. The castor bean can grow in your garden and the oil from the bean is castor oil. Castor oil is used on the scalp for hair loss and is consumed for gastrointestinal problems. I do not recommend motor oil in your hair or on a salad. Read the owners manual.

Sorry, I couldn't help myself.

LOL Baron. I thought Castor was a brand of motor oil. Actually I'm sure it is. But I'll look into the bean oil. Never heard of it. We don't do beans a whole lot here so not my knowledge centre. Thanks for making fun of me tho. Haha

sandy, that's CASTROL......lol.
we had HUGE flocks of tundra swans flying over going north yesterday. :-) and one of my 5 maple trees that i have tapped is giving yellow and buddy sap, so that run is almost over. got a ton of sap from the other 4 trees, but i figure it's over now, no nights below 0 for a while.
robins all over the place and the masses of starlings are back....trying to build nests EVERYWHERE. Horses are leaving small horses worth of hair on the ground everywhere, time for a good shedding blade brushing when the farrier is in on friday. until then they are running up and down the field-2000 pounds of energy, i ain't going in there with them till they stop that. LOL. Nice to see them with spring fever. even all the cats are outside today. chickens too! my one turkey is trying to be broody again...didn't work last time, she would roost at night LOL. this time though she seems pretty serious....hissing at the tom too. i might have to throw him out into the barn for a while. it better be spring....sure feels like it!
