How exciting to have one in your kesterel box! My dogs thought the calls were very interesting :).

People sometimes get Screech Owls in their open mailboxes here in the south. Can you imagine reaching in for a flyer and getting a peck on the hand?

I believe that is how Sam Peckinpaw got his name.

SO I investigated further and found an owl pellet under the nestbox. Here are the results.
There was lots of grey vole fur and a complete upper skull with eye sockets and I found both sides of the lower mandible with teeth. I am excited DH not so much. Hope the little guy stays and doesn't get evicted by starlings.

Oh no this is fascinating. Apparently the breakfast table isn't the spot for this, confused now!

I think it's fascinating too, just not sure I would be willing to "poke the package" :)

I did at one point in my career spend far too much time looking for parasites in hare droppings. I think I have an abstract of the paper if anyone is interested........
BTW owl pellets aren't unpleasant they are just regurgitated undigested parts. Now I come to think of it that doesn't sound so good.
