Baby chicks (21 days old) and mama hen

Here are the chicks with the "good" mama hen, 21 days in. They are very happy and healthy, despite the loss of that initial chick the rest have done really well and seem eager to start adventuring with their adoptive mama hen. The other hens have come around to have a look (not the aggressive broody hen though, she's back in a laying box on a ceramic egg, ever so hopeful it will hatch) and the mama hen gave them the business so i think things are looking good. Hopefully soon time to transition them from the brooder, to the coop!

Congratulations! Not sure about your setup, but I just take my Mum and chicks outside and they figure out the rest. If she wants them out with everyone..she'll take care of them..that's how I do it.

I have the brooder (3'x7') in the basement right near the walk out door. I can just open the front of the brooder and open the door and the mama just takes them out. Then around 5-6pm I sort of round them up and they all scurry back inside with mama.
At some point I will have to just cart them out to the coop I guess, and let them venture out from there (mama hasn't taken them back to the coop).

They're very cute! I agree with kbr...let her decide. She knows better what she and her brood can handle.
