Yeah, you can say that. I dont hunt them down or anything. Dog caught that one all on his own and was so proud. Happens about once a year for a chuck or rabbit.

Yeah..i remember as a kid on the farm, they were fair game and shot on sight..there was, and i realized this later, a misguided and irrational hate on for groundhogs...rural myths as to damage they caused...then some idiot thought it was a good idea to reintroduce fishers... Geez Louise where do these folks come up with this crap?...here in the Rideau Lakes it is a rare sighting indeed to see a groundhog. Wonder why we always do things to make the pendulum swing to its extremes. @Farrier1987 , I totally understand the dog getting one in occasion..its what dogs do. When the muskrats or beavers or even the snappers wander up into our yard from the swamp the dogs lose their minds. Stopping the Pyr here from killing a beaver is what got me bit. Yes, by the beaver not my dog, lol. Anyway, a few more 'chucks' wouldn't hurt my feelings a great deal. :run:

At our old farm in Dufferin, we were on sandy loam and the groundhogs loved it and there were collections of dens everywhere. It was also hilly so baling with a small baler and wagon was treacherous as the person driving the tractor had to dodge several holes at each den while calculating which wheel falling into a hole would do the least damage or knock off the people trying to grab and stack bales on the wagon. It was made all the worse going up or down hills so you had to have excellent control of the clutch and brakes! I always knew spring was coming in late February when they would start coming out of their dens an leave piles of dirt on the white snow.

When I moved to Prince Edward County there weren’t any mainly because most of the soils are hard clay and only a few feet deep before you hit rock
