I have tons of gophers on my property again this year. For some reason there have been no hawks here for a couple of years. I use poison a bit, but only around the house and in my buildings so I can pick up and dispose of the bodies. Coyotes go through my yard often, but usually ignore the gophers. In the last few days they have been here perfecting their hunting skills, and I've seen them catch several gophers (watching from in the house). They eat some and they take some away. I assumed they had pups somewhere. Yesterday there were three adults here. Today I have seen 2 hunting. I was surprised to see this little one walking around alone this morning. I think it found the adults. I could see them in the field behind my place. I wonder how many more there are.

I don't think any of them look mangy. It rained yesterday and the adults were all wet. Their hair isn't laying right today either.

Looks like they've moved in. There were 4 pups in the garden this morning. One of my small highbush cranberries was pulled out of the ground, roots and all. Hmm. I wonder who did that.
