A Huge turkey vulture flew past my kitchen window yesterday. I got a picture but not a good one. I wasn't fast enough. It really covered ground quickly. I read they have a 6 foot wingspan. If you look close you can see it. :)

We have several visiting us regularly here too. The theory is that because there's much less road-kill (because of much less traffic thanks to Covid-19), they have had to extend their range.

We have themn here pretty regular, specially spring and fall on the Lake Erie north shore. They ride the thermals on the lake/shore a lot. Dogs are trained(?) to bark at big birds to warn the chickens, and they do. The turkey vultures have never bothered the chickens far as I know. With the dogs, it was for hawks, and it seems to work, but some times they are over enthusiastic, some might call yappy, me included.

We've never had issues with vultures at all. Even the chickens ignore them now. Same with Bald Eagles.
We have one nest on one side of the property and the other in the other ravine. Lots flying over all the time. Chickens don't care. Guineans do, but they are "special" birds.

It was about 8 feet off the ground and about 10 feet from the house when it flew by my window. It was amazing to get to see it so close.

They are not common here. The only other time I saw one was many years ago near the Qu'Appelle valley.
