I usually candle at day 7 to keep my incubators full and take out the ones that didn’t start. I never get tired of seeing the embryo growing even years later

Yep, it's a miracle every time. How can anyone get tired of witnessing a miracle?

I admit, I'm a serial candlr. Gets tricky when I need to take them out from under the turkey girls though! It is essential because they have a nasty habit of brooding the odd mud encrusted stinker!

OK, for the old dude that has never candled, just let the hens do their thing. A couple questions.
Where would you get a candler?
What should they cost? What is a good brand? Things to watch out for?
Candle day 7, any other time? I mean regularly. Not like the hen was off the nest or something.
Any other gems of knowledge to pass on?

I use a small LED flashlight with some pipe insulation on the end. Nothing fancy! I can pick up something usually around Day 5 for my white shelled turkey eggs. I candle towards the end to mke sure they'll all come out in the same time window.

I candle on day 4 with an led flashlight in a dark room that's all you need. For blue/ green/ dark brown eggs candling is a little more difficult and I usually wait till day 7

I have an led flashlight with a few washers on the end. I also use my phone. Both work great. I try and wait until day 5 before I peak. So, cool on day 9 when the little buggers move

LED flashlight....just a cheapo 2$ one works the best for me! Or, if i can't find that one, the maglight is awesome! but i'm always worried that the maglight might heat up the egg inside.....
i have managed to hold myself to candling at day10. i do not know how....okay, day 10 and day 14. day 14 anything that is behind or quit goes out so i don't get the nasty sulphury bomb at the end of the incubation. oh, and day 18 when they move to the hatcher. ha ha.

My incubator has it built it. Otherwise I have a bright led flashlight from the dollar store that works awesome.
