We put an old blanket on the bed for the cats to lay on during the day. Yesterday, there was a worm on it. We don't usually Revolution them during the winter, money reasons, but figured it was time. Had some on hand. So we have to catch the reformed feral one. Its quite a process.

When she is eating, throw a thick blanket over her, wrap her up and get a little fur showing. Get the liquid on the right spot, back of neck. Try not to get bit or clawed. Much hissing and growling and the back feet trying to pedal. Got it done, nobody maimed for life. Havent seen her for the last 24 hrs, but she will reappear soon, just be warry for a few days. If I get up in the middle of the night and watch tv and go back to sleep in the lazy boy, she will show up for sure.

Hang on; not every chicken person has a cat! We do not; DH is allergic. We would have a barn cat if it could get in and out on its own, though. But, alas, nooks and crannies and other large spaces had to be blocked to keep other large mammals out of the barn.

Two feral....turned friendly....never in the house and work hard on the rodents in the barn. Never had a problem with them bothering the birds or chicks. Had to introduce them to the Pyrenees by keeping them kennelled for three months by his bed in the barn. The Pyrenees kills all other cats that come onto property. Good thing we have no neighbours for miles and miles. I do feel sorry about the cats he gets. I do think his barking keeps many away so we really don’t get many.

After reading and re-reading this thread, I want a cat (again) now. Not a brilliant idea, given our current circumstances, but if the right rescue or feral cat were to come our way ... yeah, I am a sucker for an animal in need. I've even been scouring Kijiji for guinea pigs, because they have cold manure (I've been dreaming about the growing season ahead), and they are adorable. Not necessarily in that order.

Sorry @Jaye but that has got to be the worst excuse to get a pet I have ever heard of, and I have come up with some pretty lame ones myself ;)

This is Claude, he was adopted as a barn cat when we lived at our last place to keep the rodents at bay. He was strictly an outdoor cat, with a big barn and a sheltered house by the back door. When we had to move I tried to get him a new home but the guys wanted to take him so for the summer he lived outside our new place. As winter came, the guys decided he should move in, and voila, he’s now very happy blending into the soft furniture!

It helped that he’s a very laid back cat and our 2 younger cats love him...

True ... and that's why it's not likely going to happen.;-)

Our rescue cats. We picked Kraken (the black one) up from a shelter to keep our other cat at the time company, but when that cat died, we decided to get him a friend. Went to a barn to pick up a kitten, and ended up with 2 that were destined for the manure pile (?). He loves both his brothers Preacher (tuxedo) and Cassidy (orange).
Strictly indoor cats at the moment, because I wouldnt forgive myself if they got eaten by outdoor critters,or ate any outdoor critters they shouldn’t, but they do catch any mice trying to get in the house.
