Worst molt I've seen

Post by Happy » Sat Oct 26, 2019 8:31 pm

This poor girl 🙁
She doesn't have one wing feather and can't even get to her perch. I've had to cage her so she wouldn't hurt herself trying to fly up. FYI chickens do not always land on their feet like cats!
She's got a cushy cat bed and fleece blanket now. Thankfully it's not too cold yet.

Poor dear. Lucky to have you as her keeper. Lots of protein treats will help get her to get back into fine form. But you probably already know that.

I have one that has bare circle around a tail that consists of 2 feathers, looks absolutely pathetic, but as you say at least it's not too cold yet, at least thats what I keep telling myself.

If I'm being honest I did try bringing her inside but she really doesn't want to be here. So I bring her in for her scrambled eggs and tuna and take her back out to be with her peeps.

This little girls feathers were floating down from the rafters like snowflakes tonight. I've never seen bald spots on any of my Old English when they molt. They are slow, sneaky molters typically. Grace is moody and was picking fights with everyone the past few days. Even the roosters are afraid of her right now 😂

I find that the young birds are usually not that obvious molters in wyandottes anyway, but older they get longer it takes for the new feathers to come in.
Older I get more I understand it ;)
