Thanks all. It's a Brabanter / blue Ameraucana cross. Sweet little thing. Pretty much dried off now and it looks like it has a Brabanter crest and Ameraucana colouring. This morning I'm getting concerned that there has been nothing going on with the other 6 eggs. Is it normal for such a big spread in hatch times?

First early surprise chick, hatched in the hour and a half we were gone to the dog wash! I thought I heard a few cheeps before I left, but didn't see any egg movement or pips, so I chalked it up to hearing birds outside. When we got home, we saw this little one. I was not expecting any to hatch before tomorrow.

Yes sometimes there is a spread in hatch times, I've had one hatch and 2 days later the rest hatched, don't know if a hen was already starting to sit, who knows.

Okay, so today I've got one that pipped this morning, but really hasn't progressed much after a few hours. I know it's still alive because every time I talk to it, there is movement in the shell - I can see it through the hole it's made. #5 has been snuggled up against it from time to time amd has even pecked at it a few times. There is no sign of life in any of the other eggs, so I really need this chick to make it so that #5 has a buddy. #5 has already started pooping and is showing signs of being hungry, thirsty and restless, so since it will be 24 hours since hatch, I need to think about moving #5 to the brooder.
Anyway, long story short, I need help with determining when to intervene with the chick tbat has stalled. Any thoughts?

I personally would sleep on it and see what morning brings.
The chick will be fine for 48 hours, it's still digesting the yolk, so not hungry ;)

Agree with OC. Pip often doesn’t seem to progress for 24 hours before zipping. And #1 is just lonely. And you are desperate to hold her 😉. She’s fine in there.

Thanks, @Ontario Chick and @Happy . I should mention that in my earlier post should have said pipped and started zipping, but stalled. Does that make a difference in how to proceed?
