Introducing "Jewel"
Last year, I put together Columbian Wyandotte male and 3 Black hens, in an effort to produce one decent Columbian cockerel.
As expected the 28 chicks were approximately half Columbian and half Black.
Unfortunately not even one measly Columbian male worth breeding came out of that lot.
But one somewhat decent Black cockerel seemed to be turning out not too shabby so kept him.
This is why raising chickens is such an exciting hobby, you make a sensible logical decision and then you scrap it and do something completely different against any logic or reason.
Jewel at 10 month his Baby picture, or possibly one of his many brothers... Please note he kept his white eyebrows seems to be quite ware that he is a handsome fellow

Did you notice the tail ? I was able to completely overlook the "not complete Black" when I was looking at the tail

Re: Introducing "Jewel"
The tails are better on all the Black pullets too, the Columbians still lacking somewhat
It's actually difficult to see the colors apart from the sheen even in real life,
there are some very narrow gold bands on the hackle feathers and silver & turquoise wing bars
also some very peculiar white base tail feathers and of course those white eyebrows
