What am I.

The silkies were out free ranging yesterday and when I came home they were hiding, I'd been away about 2 hours. I heard a robin calling out a warning and thought maybe a fox was around. I looked around but saw nothing. I started looking for my silkies and started putting them away. As I was putting them away in their cage image my surprise to find this guy sitting a foot away from me, totally unconcerned with my closeness. I could have reached out and touched it. I ran in the house to tell my husband and get our cameras. We took pictures then chased it out. It was totally unafraid and even when we approached it outside it had perched on the trailer it was unafraid and we took more pictures. I thought maybe it was sick or had flown into the windows and it finally flew up into the trees. I went in as supper was ready but I had still not found my one white showgirl. Shes a silly thing that runs the opposite way from everyone else when she gets frightened. I just sat down to eat and heard a commotion run outside to find the hawk had my hen, I run over shoved him off my girl grabbed her and brought her inside she appears unharmed.
Anyways anyone know what kind of hawk this is?

I don't know, but there was one just like it here yesterday. He landed on our neighbour's deck, which is when he caught my eye. The only reason he left is because he /she was escorted away by a murder of crows. Wow, you got some beautiful photos, @kenya !

It's a beauty, the juveniles are out testing their proves, let's hope he decided chickens aren't worth the hassle the owners cause :)

Yes I figured it was probably a juvenile as it didn't finish off my hen quickly, seemed unsure what to do once she was caught. I'm sure an older bird would have killed her right away and not let me shove it off her.
The weird thing was that it was so unafraid of me almost like it was someones pet.

Yes my husband and I were amazed at the photos we got, these photos were from my cell phone. Our cameras took even better pictures.

I think now they are fending for themselves and are bolder due to hunger.
