My Ameraucanas

Post by muffin57 » Sat Jul 21, 2018 3:21 pm

These are the Ameraucanas that hatched from Kenya's eggs. They are a month old now. I got Blue Ameraucana and Blue Wheaten Ameraucana eggs from Kenya. Only 5 hatched, but I am so happy to have any. There are 3 Partridge Chanteclers that hatched at the same time.

Can the be kept together next year for breeding or do I have to separate the wheaten from the blue?

From the looks of the ameraucanas I would say you don't have any wheaten, the light coloured one is a splash, so all the ameraucanas can stay in the same pen .

The real dark ones look to be black, breeding blues you will get blue, black and splash. If you cross the splash with the black the offspring will be all blues.
This is a surprise you got so many blacks I've only ever gotten a few over all the years I've bred them. Course it could be the computer showing a different colour then what they actually are.

I don't have a very good angle but lt looks like the blue and splash are female, the 2 black whose comb I can see look to be male.

Oh, this is exciting. Yes, there were 3 black, one lighter that I guess you say is the blue one and then there is the white one. This is so awesome. Thank you, so much Kenya! I do feel very fortunate to have them.

The splash as it gets older will get grey spots.

Usually when they are a month to 2 months old you can pretty well tell colour and sex. Sex can still be tricky till they are a little older but if you have siblings it makes it a lot easier. Males will start to show a comb and be a little redder in the comb. The males will usually show 3 rows to their comb at an early age the females not so much.
I could still be wrong about the sex of the above chicks as from pictures its harder to tell but if I saw them in person I would have no difficulty.
If she posts more pictures as they grow we will know.

'm posting more pics for you Kenya. I don't know if all 5 of them are in these pictures or not, as I can't yet tell the black ones apart. It is so difficult to get a picture of them all together outside. They just won't stay together until I get it done. I missed getting a few good pics. I will keep trying and maybe one day it will work out. They go into the coop at night on their own. My husband then picks them up and puts them in the brooder. We just open the brooder door and they fly out on their own. They are so cute to watch running around and playing together. Well, I can't wait to hear what more you have to say about them.
