Random poultry pictures...
I went out today to take some pictures of Jan and his little flock for @Jaye , and of course only one hen in evidence, coming to use the nest box...the rest are off foraging somewhere, so I took a bunch of random bird pictures instead :) Also tried to get pictures of the EE boys I got from @TomK , and only got one of them. The other one is behind the barn, where the cow patties are, and I was too lazy to grab boots. That's Tom's boy, 3rd and 4th picture. He's been scrapping, and losing...I had to soak his eye open, it was crusted shut with blood, but I can't figure out who he's been scrapping WITH. Luckily enough, there are lots of hens to go around, and there's a couple that prefer this guy.
So, here are some poultry pics "just because".

Embden ganders. BOTH the Embden geese, AND the China, have gone broody as of last night. All three. At once. Kind of ticks me off, because I wanted a few more eggs out of them yet, and if I break them they may or may not lay more, no way to know. The one girl usually tries for a second nest in the fall, but I don't want to wait that longKillerbunny wrote: ↑Thu May 10, 2018 6:41 pmVian wanted to know what the 2 white geese were that escorted him off the premises LOL!

Wait, what?! I searched, but no sign of Jan in any of your pics, unless he's morphed into something completely different since the last time I clapped eyes on him ...
I just love your "life at our place" pics, Jan. AKA @windwalkingwolf, not Jan the rooster. They really made my evening.
I will be taking some pics of Deanie this weekend in case you are interested (guessing you are somewhat interested). She's a character, and a laying machine. It's disturbing, really. Th elaying machine part. She laid two eggs today.
I want her to stop that nonsense and slow down because I want to have her healthy for the long run. She's a beaut.

Looks like the hen with the young chicks is ready to take on those turkeys.
Love the turkey display, you need to get a head on picture of him displaying for the photo contest.

Re: Random poultry pictures...
That's less than half of them

.
She's pretty easy going, just likes to keep a sharp eye on the littles to make sure they don't get stepped on. I have never seen her take after any of them. The cat however, could be walking by 40 feet away, and she's on him like stink on you-know-what. I threw out over 140 blurry pictures of headless birds, chicken butts, and my own fingers just to get that handful!A good frontal picture of Roll Fizzlebeef (that's the turkey's name) might be too ambitious for me lol
Of course, he was out in the field with three of his ladies. I swear they know when I'm coming with the camera, and flock off. One of his ladies has gone broody, and the fifth was standing in the coop, staring at the broody one, wondering if she dared lay an egg. Jan has some really gorgeous spangling.Jaye wrote: ↑Thu May 10, 2018 7:29 pmWait, what?! YES I want to see Deanie! I probably should have mentioned the "laying machine" bit...about half of my EE crosses are like that. If it's any consolation, I've only ever had problems with one of them as a result...never any prolapses or anything, but one machine gun girl I had, had a "fairy egg" (would have been her second egg that day)get stuck right on the heels of a huge one, then eggs piled up behind it very quickly.
