This is the hen house in the barn for the winter. There are 3 nesting boxes.

The inside enclosure first housed our meat chickens. Outside, the coop in the middle is for the new hens that we got this past September; it has 2 large external nesting boxes with one hinged lid, and a hinged roof that can be propped up so the front wall can be let down for cleaning. The coop on the left, with its 3 nesting boxes was not enough for the 15 hens. The coop on the far right is our original coop for the Frey's Dual Purpose meat chickens. Because the hens started laying, we put a plastic crate in there for a nesting box.

Let the bidding begin! I'll give you double the food and beer WWW gives you!

Thanks for all the compliments! I cannot take any credit; it's all my husband's doing. The only thing I did was lace the top and bottom, and overhead chicken wire together. Or hold something in place for him while he was building it. As it turns out, it is a bit of advertising because it is clearly seen from the road.
Someone asked us once, why we did not put the chickens behind one of the barns. I told them it was because we can't see them from the house if they were back there, which is true. When we do let them out of the enclosures, we are also outside.

If you ever make your way to the Westport area via Hwy15 to CR42, you will pass our place 2 minutes outside of Westport.
