We were emptying the "people" pool last fall and found some loiterers.
And a shot of Merlin with a new flock member.

Are those geese with tuffs on their heads? What are they called?

They look so happy, surely they need their own pool?

I did not know such a goose existed, they are not only pretty but cute too. Now when I think about it, I did hear the name but never saw a picture so it didn't click. Do they always have a tuff or is it like the ducks that are a hit and a miss, some have it but some miss the gene?

Where the heck did you get those from????? Seems to be very few in Ontario. Saw a pair at Odessa.

, i got them from a lady near Guelph in autumn 2015. She said they're Holderread descendent. I had two pairs but one male beat the other up so I sold a pair last spring. I have a book on them and they recommend 1 gander to 5 geese as they are prolific breeders. I hardly feed them, they are basically lawn mowers.
I have a kiddy pool for them as its easy to dump out and clean.
To answer your q Tufted parents lead to mostly tufted offspring. They are not nasty as other geese are to people, they are a size smaller than embdens (probably 12 pounds) and lay between 30-60 eggs per year. I haven't mastered the incubator hatching for them or I'd have more.
I have three goslings and eggs in the bator so I might not sell any this year. The two geese shared a nest and the eggs got pushed down deep in the shavings so no luck there. They are not pushovers, i had a bruise for a week from checking the eggs. And they don't fly.

Actually, this is their pool. I used it a few weeks for a brooder, now they got it back.
