Silkies getting DNA sex test....anyone wanna play a guessing game?
Hi all!
I recently acquired two silkies, LeeLee (white) and Audra (black). Leelee is a bit younger than Audra, maybe by a week or two.
The breeder felt a bit confident that Leelee was female, and wasn't sure on Audra. About a week after I had Leelee, she wrote saying her and her vet were now thinking Audra was a pullet. So now I have both. I can't stand the suspense. I'm not allowed to have roosters in Niagara Falls, so if one (or both, ugh) are roosters, I'm in trouble, and will have to try a no crow collar....and they will have to be half indoor chickens which I don't mind I guess;-) But yeah, complications....
Anyhoo, I sent away for the blood test last Friday, so I should be getting the results any day now!
I'm going to post some pics in order of newest to oldest photos. I have more of LeeLee as I had her first and Audra is pretty new. I'm pretty sure Audra is a female....but I am starting to wonder about LeeLee!! Whoever wants to play a guessing game, go for it....and I will post the results as soon as they come in!!
What do y'all think?

Brilliant!
Not a clue, but we all love a good "chicken mystery" guessing....

Re: Silkies getting DNA sex test....anyone wanna play a guessing game?
Audra girl, LeeLee boy is my best guess too, but Silkies are NOT my area at all. They confuse me every time. I'm basing my guesses on the way they're standing, but that really only works if there's more than two. I'm guessing male for the white one because he's dominant, watching everything, while the black pullet is happy to leave him to it, and take a nap. However, if they're both pullets, with no males around, one would be the appointed watchdog in any case. @@kenya ?

Yeah I'm thinking the same way....but then Audra does the higher stance sometimes and confuses me.
I was looking at the crest feathers and comb. Comb looks a bit wider on Leelee, and maybe slightly more raised and she's younger. Plus I am seeing little streamers starting maybe? Hard to tell!
Ross, what makes you think cockerel for Leelee?
Both are from different parents, and have very different personalities. Leelee is a little firecracker....a bit of a nut too. Audra seems more reserved and shy but also plays with LeeLee.
LeeLee also does more chirping sounds while Audra does the trilling purring noise all the time.
Guess I'd better get a no crow collar to prepare for this. Anyone have any luck with those?

Hahaha, the purring noise can be translated as "shut up, you idiot, I'm trying to sleep!" That's almost always a girl thing. Chirping to call others in for dinner, is almost always a boy thing. If LeeLee is pausing to chirp while eating, probably a boy.

Oh boy, LOL!
Well Audra does the purring thing 24/7 so she must really hate noise....ha ha!
Oh Leelee...why why why.
Well she/he must not know yet....she steals the food from Audra and runs away!
OMG I hope the results come soon!

As far as purring that's what old style silkies have done for ever when settled . Over all look of white one makes me think it's a cockeral with out handling & seeing .
