Ok so (S) :he made me do it: Kathy sent the kids home with 6 eggs when we were there. one was an early quiter but the other 5 are well on there way out. one is out already and chirping up a storm! an EE? maybe? I dont know. it has yellow down and feathered feet, I think it came out of a blue/green egg. HAHA just like a box of chocolates.... ya never know what your guna get. :-) each egg was from a different pen.

OH NO CHICKS IN THE HOUSE! (at least for a bit then they are going out to the shop inside an insulated brooder.)

Thanks Kathy! the kids sure are excited!!! :teasing:

well I may have counted my chickens before they hatched. dont do that. so the first one hatched with out any problems. the 2nd pipped and died and the other 3 dont seem to have any activity at all.

so this incubation period I set them up in my hatcher and hand turned them twice a day. I dont believe this to be enough. I also think they drowned upon the internal pip. the chick I just tried to help out was a sticky mess and deceased... :-( bummer but at least the kids fully understand the incubation process.

looks like we could end up with a house chicken after all. theres just no chance 1 chick would do well on its own in the insulated brooder out in my shop.

you win some n you loose some, with a small amount of eggs the margin of error is increased drastically. but at least we got one! lets hope SHES a Pullet!!! :-)

That's too bad but you're right...Lessons for the kids never hurts. If you need any tips on house chickens I'm your gal ;)
For now...A stuffed animal and a small mirror if you have one seemed to give Happy some comfort as a lone chick and reduced the cheeping non-stop for company.

Well I see a Happy in your future, although this one is going to be bigger than him.
