Got some very nice sunflower seeds from WCG delivered by KB, when one of the old wooden bird feeders finally bit the dust.
Went out and priced bird feeders than shook myself back to consciousness, and thought "Shirley" I have something kicking around that would do the job and I could watch the birdies from my window.
The maple is a replacement for an old one we lost, but none of the branches lend themselves well to hang a feeder from,
Standing in front of 6 pairs of skis nobody uses anymore................
so here we are .............
As you can tell I am very proud of myself, all found materials and the birdies like it :)

That's what I thought, the feeder never worked well for chicks, so at least it gets used this way.
If the squirrels don't figure out how to get at it, I will have it patented, after all the countryside must be full of ski poles nobody uses, right? :)

Wish you'd come up with this before I de-cluttered my father's house after he moved to a senior's residence. Many old x-country ski poles wound up getting thrown out.
Your re-purposed ski poles is a case in point that it's true what they say: necessity is the mother of invention.

Hubby asked if I wanted a bird feeder. My response was: 1. There is nowhere suitable that it could be where I would be able to watch them while doing other things; 2. We have enough mice in the basement in the Fall; 3. We don't need to attract anymore small or large rodents near the house.
Which is really sad because I love watching wild birds, especially our winter birds.

That's awesome, OC! But what are you going to do with the skis?

I was thinking maybe build a sled? Perhaps the deer would be willing to pull, bring in some wood from the back?

ingenuity OC! I love it! so when I was 12 I took 2 down hill skis and fitted them to a bmx frame! it blew all the other sleds off the hill! that thing was crazy fast, pretty darn dangerous and loads of fun! you had to carve the rear ski to turn and if you tried to steer with the handle bars you would beat the sled to the bottom right after you flew over the handle bars. it was so fun and I'd let anyone ride it who wanted to and 9/10 time s they wiped right out. back in the days before helmets, I wonder how I survived. LOL I swear I was the first person to do that, a few years later I saw them on tv and I was quite upset cuz I was the inventor of the Skike.
