watched a program on CBC on the Great horned Owl last night, they are such beautiful birds, you get sort of mad at them and then you see the fledglings and you think, well, if the were going hungry I would probably give them a chicken ;)

Oh I know but man I would have preferred 6 chickens over 6 calls

Love all your pictures! It's awful losing your ducks though. So sorry to hear that. That owl might stick around for awhile now.

Vian says on current performance you'd probably give them the best chicken!

Wow thats a beautiful bird! and darn sorry to hear about your calls! I have a bald eagle around here, he flew over the run the other day scoping it out but thankfully my birds wernt out yet. he hasnt taken any yet... knock on wood! but I think he has taken 2 wild turkeys over the last month or so, the wild flock had 28 birds in it and now there are 26. I'd imagine a wild turkey would go a long way for 1 bald eagle, I hope he sticks to those but dosent take them all. I love Raptors!

We got a new puppy. Should be fun raising a bird dog with a flock of chickens! He came into our family by happenstance but we aren't complaining :) So far so good I take him on leash right into the coop with me to collect eggs...the girls and a couple of roos have given him a few pecks so he is learning to give them space. Our old dog Finn (will be 14 in May) just tries to pretend the pup is a figment of his imagination and our Dane is just happy to have a anew chew toy and bed warmer ;)
