Thought I would share a picture of my BSL. she has a black comb. I have an EE or two with black combs as well. Same guy I got them all from so must be in the lines somewhere.

I'm going to try to get a better picture. It really is unique with her red around her eyes but black beak and comb.

Interesting look ... not a very large comb either, so far. That's a good comb to have in our winters.
I am partial to BSLs because mine has a great temperament: she's friendly to me and kind to her flockmates (she's head hen).
She's 5 now, and still laying regularly.

I also have about 3 or 4 with black combs
One has a black comb with bright red wattles
Now sure where this comes from as these were from my hens and rooster

I have BSL & RSL. They have great temperaments and will replace the bitchy barred rocks when laying begins. They are sweet girls for sure.
They were hatched week of April 1st (I think), hopefully start laying by October.

so the black comb and red face is usually due to fibromelanotic genes.....the ayam ceyamis have been extensively bred for this trait to give black meat and black skin etc. but doesn't mean that a melantoic line like some of the black copper marans lines can't get some of the characteristics. I always worry when someone writes me and says "black" or "dark" comb on a chicken because i assume heart issues LOL. But these ones look awesomely healthy! I would not be surprised if it lightens up some as they grow up, and that the legs actually darken up a little bit too. or to see the dark sneak down around the eyes in older age.
