The main flock of Wyandottes is just across the fence from the Chick run, and it's funny to watch some of the old hens stand on the railing and surveying the youngsters , I can almost hear them critiquing the young "chicks".....

I'm at the stage here too...the younger birds in the free run during the days with the older hens in the pen adjacent...the staring going on is stupid funny..wonder what will happen when they blend..the pecking order setting up is always interesting

I like to combine flocks in a place new to everybody, but this year will not have the space, another 2-3 month to go, I might combine them in a different way, makes it much easier then trying to bring new birds in to an established group on "home ground"
If I move everybody around they get a bit distracted and less clannish.
Although not sure who I am kidding they seem to remember their hatch mates 3 years later ;)
