They're still alive after all! Just turned on the heat lamp (100 watt bulb, reptile lamp).. It's too cool for them at night yet, right? Supposed to go down to 18 degrees tonight. So, I'll let the lamp heat up and then go check, see how the temperature seems. Lamp has a dimmer so we can scale it back a bit.. Love how the coop looks from the outside. I had been keeping them in a dog kennel in the garage, bit nervous for the first night out.

I think they will be just fine. They have their feathers so the heat lamp will be a luxury. The only thing I might do differently is move the food away from directly under the lamp, and put a small thermometer directly under it instead so you know what the temperature at chick level is. The chicks will self- regulate their own temperature, and will move closer or further away as needed, the thermometer is just to check if the chicks look uncomfortable.

How old are they? Just asking because my broody thought it was fine to dump the kids at 5 weeks and run off with the handsome rooster!
They spent the night alone in the small broody coop and they're fine.!

I have 10 chicks. About 9 days old. No heat lamp at night, in the coop with the big chickens (in their own cage of course) out on grass during the day in a cage. They are doing great. Coop heats up during the day and stays warm enough thru the night.
They have a covered box full of straw and bedding to crawl into if they get chilled during the day. I start them out in the box each morning so they know it's there.
I don't overly pamper and yes many will critize that (along with a bazillion other things I do) but it's how I do it and it works.
You definitely will not have problems. Like I was told so many times, relax and enjoy them :)
