.....and look what we found,
about 5 years ago a pair of Pileated woodpeckers made a nest in there, and hatched a batch of very loud young.
Ever since then the tree was slowly dying ( might have been the other way around, the tree was dying and that's why the nest) well, it finally came down and brought a very surprising find, the eggs are huge, about silky size, no development started, I candled them :)

Seriously you think it is Illegal ~ for real?
Since you don't have ANY incubators, there's NO chance of getting into any trouble!
It really WOOD be nice to make a bird house out of the piece of trunk with the entrance hole.
That's one was to stay outta trouble (*o*)

I have 3 incubators, so plenty of opportunity to get in to trouble,

....and yes since it's illegal to keep any wild life in captivity my guess would be that hatching a clutch of pileated woodpeckers would fall in to that category.

Well, its dead eggs or chicks....you can always hatch them and hand them over to the wild bird rehabilitation outfit in ottawa....i'd have them in the incubator in a heartbeat..whats to lose?... I don't get some of these regulations seriously....there's never any wiggle room for common sense
