hahah OC! Thanks SR! yup she hatched those chicks! Iv also had lightbrown, other blacks and Buff LHs go broody, more than once. these arnt production birds but i did just get them for layers. I dont know yet if im going to purposly breed the leghorns, my main focus is my heritage rirs followed by the beltsville small white turkeys and the jumbo quail. sooo hmmmm i do have a big barn! my next move for this hen will depend on what others with experience have to say....

Coonhound im sure you told me this was going to happen so what do you think?

One more question please, someone told me that buff leghorns lay brown eggs, not white as usual, is this true?

I have heard they can lay a tinted egg, I had found a tinted egg and thought it was from them but it turned out to be from my dark cornish. mine were all white as far as i know. they free ranged with the rest of my flock but i did see a pullet lay a nice white egg right in front of me, one of those ohh what was that? she was still learning... I no longer keep the buffs... thats the price of free range sometimes. I have a nice secure 3000 square foot coop/run now, I have to get the netting over the top though to keep the raptors out... so far so good.

This happens with some peafowl. Some call it progressive pied (splash in chickens?). Some peas will go blind when they've morphed completely white. The very first bronze peacock turned more white every year until he was almost solid white. I think it took almost 8 yrs or so if I remember.

thanks HayLadee Well it took her 3 years to turn this color. LOL. I may set up a black breeding pen here soon and if I do she will be in it. my blacks are not the best type wise but lay perfect white eggs and thats my only goal for breeding them if i do.... She still looks as she did in the last pics on here, see what her next moult brings.
